Five south London men jailed for burglary, car theft, loan sharking and drug offences

Five men from south London have been sentenced at Bromley Crown Court for offences ranging from burglary to drug trafficking. The cases involve victims in Sidcup, Sutton, Morden and across the London transport network.

Burglary leaves Sidcup children fearful

Cyrus Caesar, 25, of Sidcup, was jailed for one year and two months after breaking into a home on Longmead Drive. The burglary occurred on an afternoon in July while the occupants were out. Caesar forced the conservatory door off its hinges and stole jewellery worth £2,000, some of it sentimental.

The victims, a couple, returned with their two grandsons, aged eight and ten. The children saw the damaged door and became distressed, asking whether the burglars might return. The family told the Wandsworth Guardian that the boys no longer feel as safe in the home as they once did.

Car thief targeted luxury vehicles worth £171,500

Liam Carroll, 22, from Wallington, was sentenced to three years in prison for stealing luxury cars from homes in Surrey and south London. Between July 2024 and October 2025, Carroll took vehicles valued at £171,500, including a Mercedes GLB, a BMW 520D, a Porsche 911 and a BMW i5 Touring M Sport.

Carroll entered properties while residents slept, often through unlocked doors. In one case, he snapped a door lock to steal the keys to a Porsche worth more than £65,000. Surrey Police released an image of Carroll following his conviction, as reported by the Wandsworth Guardian.

Loan shark operation lent £4.7 million at exploitative rates

Alexander Ali Baba, 66, of Morden, was jailed for 12 months for running an illegal money-lending business. Between January 2020 and October 2025, Ali Baba issued 2,275 loans totalling £4.7 million, expecting repayments of £6.6 million.

Prosecutor Ben Irwin, representing the Illegal Money Lending Team, described the operation as oppressive. Borrowers faced steep penalties, including a £140 charge for each missed payment. One pregnant woman paid more than £3,000 on a £3,000 loan but was told she still owed the full amount. She later suffered a miscarriage.

Police found more than £155,000 in cash and handwritten records during searches of Ali Baba’s home and grocery store. He pleaded guilty to two counts of illegal money lending.

Drug boss jailed for 12 years over 'Cash line' operation

Keian Creary, 33, from Orpington, was sentenced to 12 years for running a county lines drug operation. Creary trafficked Class A drugs from London to Southend under the so-called 'Cash line'. The prosecution described him as aggressive, alleging he put a bounty on a teenage runner’s head and paid someone to stab another associate.

Creary’s defence argued he was a mentally ill man groomed for crime from a young age. The case was heard at Basildon Crown Court, as reported by the News Shopper.

Paramedic abused under new gender-based harassment law

Ahmed Sheiki Ahmed, 40, from Southwark, was jailed for three months for abusing a female paramedic. Ahmed was one of the first people convicted under new legislation that criminalises intentional harassment, alarm or distress on account of sex. The law came into force in April 2026.

On 5 April, police were called to reports of a drunk man verbally abusing an ambulance crew. Ahmed used sexual and misogynistic language towards paramedic Ella Johnson while she provided emergency care. Johnson said he also tried to grab her. She told the Wandsworth Guardian: "I was there to help him and instead I had to listen to him using sexist degrading language and trying to grab me."

What happens next

All five men are currently serving their sentences. The victims of Caesar’s burglary in Sidcup have not indicated whether they will seek compensation through the courts. The Illegal Money Lending Team continues to investigate unlicensed lenders across London.

Residents affected by loan sharking can report concerns anonymously to the Stop Loan Sharks helpline. The Metropolitan Police has not announced any further action in relation to the car thefts or drug trafficking cases.
