Southwark records most crime in south-east London during August

Southwark recorded the highest number of criminal offences in south-east London during August, with 3,784 reports filed. Theft was the most common offence in the borough, followed by violence against the person. Across south-east London, a total of 12,505 offences were logged in August, a decrease of 6.6 per cent compared to July.

Crime breakdown in Southwark and Lewisham

In Southwark, theft accounted for 1,839 incidents, while violence against the person saw 850 reports. Other offences included 226 vehicle crimes, 208 burglaries, and 178 drug offences. Together, theft and violence against the person represented more than half of all recorded offences in the borough. Lewisham recorded the second-highest crime total in the region, with 2,714 offences. Violence against the person and theft were also the most frequent crimes in Lewisham, with 872 and 619 reports respectively.

Greenwich, Bromley, and Bexley crime figures

Greenwich ranked third in south-east London with 2,525 offences reported in August. The borough recorded 825 incidents of violence against the person and 614 theft offences. Bromley reported 2,047 offences, fewer than its inner London neighbours, including 611 cases of violence against the person and 457 thefts. Bexley recorded the lowest number of reported offences in south-east London, with 1,435 crimes. This included 489 reports of violence against the person and 308 thefts.

Consistent crime patterns observed

The overall pattern of crime in south-east London has remained largely consistent throughout the year, according to Metropolitan Police figures. Southwark has consistently recorded the highest number of offences each month, while Bexley has recorded the lowest. Theft and violence against the person have also consistently been the two most commonly recorded crime types across the boroughs.
