Maidstone Crown Court heard Stefano grabbed the woman by the throat twice, dragged her across the floor, and held her over a staircase. He also snapped her phone in half during the assault. Stefano pleaded guilty to intentional strangulation and causing actual bodily harm.
Victim fled to petrol station
The victim escaped when Stefano became distracted and ran to a petrol station in Chatham. Members of the public contacted Kent Police, who arrived to assist. Two additional charges, criminal damage and coercive and controlling behaviour, were ordered to lie on file.
“A woman has been traumatised by Stefano's actions and I hope the prison sentence and restraining order could bring her some closure.”
Detective Sergeant Leighton Prior commended the victim’s courage in supporting the prosecution. He described Stefano as a clear danger to women and said the restraining order and prison sentence should provide some closure.
